Course content
Lectures: 1. Basic terms. Geometric basics of maps. 2. History of cartography I. - old and historical world maps 3. History of cartography - old maps of Czech Rebulic and Slovakia 4. Mathematical cartography I. - basic terms 5. Mathematical cartography II. - classification of map projections 6. Geodesy 7. Map content 8. Cartometry and morphometry 9. Generalization principles and cartographical symbolization 10. Thematic cartography I. - conception, content, composition 11. Thematic cartography II. - quantity and quality in maps 12. Remote sensing 13. Geographic information systems 14. Map reproduction and map production

Learning outcomes
The subject is focused on geometric principles of maps, including mathematical basics of making maps and overview of the world and our (i.e. Czech Republic) historical cartography. It focus on geodetic and cartometric methods, including generalization. It involves basics of map content and thematic cartography, remote sensing, editing, print cartography and overview of present map series.
